THE OPPOSITE SEX

Have you noticed that on an average, some of your most interesting conversations are those you have with a person of the opposite sex?
I don’t even mean romantic conversations.
Even in platonic relationships. Is it because we are so different from each other? I think the excitement lies in the fact that the two genders, although thought to be so different from each other are in fact so alike.
And since we have a pre-conceived notion that we are meant to be so un-like; the sudden revelation that we can be so alike excites!!
From the little experience I’ve had I think we are all very alike.

“Men are from mars, women are from Venus.” We all love to believe this. Maybe it’s true when we decide to be complex creatures craving for attention in a romantic relationship.
But in a platonic one where the bar is set much lower (I hope), it’s much easier to just be yourself and less of some strange erratic person because you are:
a) In no way trying to impress the person in every way possible and wanting them to agree with every single thought process you have.
b) Not trying so hard not to show what you really feel.
c) Not worried that they may stop loving you for some absurd reason.
d) Not busy putting the other person on a pedestal and making life a struggle.
And so on. In other words you behave in the same way you would in a same sex relationship! (Err I’m not sure how this works for gay people)
So does this mean that every romantic relationship if it starts a platonic one can overcome these small hurdles & let both sexes be from the same planet for a change? (Mars, Venus, Jupiter – wherever you’d prefer!)

I mean how different can two sexes of the same genus and species be you’d think?
As Homo sapiens, we want the same things. Our basic needs are the SAME, our desires; well…?
Maybe it’s our inability to understand the complexity of how we want what we want, where we want it and when we want it that’s probably the cause of all this drama?

Well, I’m not writing this with the agenda of solving the mystery of our similarities or differences.

All I’m trying to say is that the opposite sex isn’t really all that “opposite”. Kapeesh?
