WORDS
What is the first thing you notice when you meet someone for the first time?
The smile? the looks? the hair? the complexion? the clothes? the shoes perhaps??
I think its the smile... and soon after & subsequently its what they say that you'll remember them for.
Hmmmm...So what could they have said that makes you remember them? Honestly it doesn't matter what.. but you'll remember!!
You can use a word to hurt someone, make them laugh, cry, smile, or even something drastic like wanting to kill you!:)
So we humans use words to communicate; but are all our communication skills awesome? NO!! & yet we think this is the best way!
No wonder we're constantly misunderstanding/misinterpreting what the other person is trying to say! There are a lot of aspects to consider while using words..
TONE -
Tone is a very important thing! It could change the meaning of what your saying entirely! Lets look at tone in categories of people when they argue:
A - SCREAMERS
There are certain people who feel, if they scream, somehow they will be, HEARD BETTER your thinking? NO! They think if they scream their point across it will magically become right! ( seriously!!@$#$@^$@)
B - SLOW AND LOW
This category of people are just annoying as hell! They think that if they speak softly and SLOWLY [the effect is suggestive of the receivers inability to grasp easily!] the other person will somehow understand better!
What they don't realize is that the waiting & mounting impatience is just infuriating person B all the more!!
C - WEEPING WILLOWS
I'm not too happy to admit that its mostly the female species that fall into this category - These feel that a long argument can be terminated quickly by them howling between words and hence turning themselves into the sudden and I repeat SUDDEN !victim! , leaving the other person positively puzzled as to how he is so clearly in the wrong now!
So you see how words [ the same words category A, B & C could be using ] came out so different??
Brilliant really come to think of it!!
Honestly, it is really important to have these tones n gestures as part of a communication system.. Because words on their own.. are well.. just words.
What matters more is the timing, the flow, & most importantly the meaning of what they are truly trying to communicate.
EXPRESSIONS -
Try saying the same word with three different expressions; lets try 'really'
a) Raise an eyebrow and say it.
b) Smile confidently and say it.
c) Frown, look concerned & say it.
Amazing or what? Never thought of it before right? n I'll bet you've used all three for sure at some point!!
So the expression + the tone + the words!! Then u throw in stuff like gestures from your other body parts , the whole body language thing & at the same time registering what person B is saying n honestly it is just so complicated!!
So the next time someone says something they didn't mean to the way they did...
Give them a BREAK!!
You just read how damn complicated a communication system we've created for ourselves !!! ;)
